How To Change Thermostat Battery

Writer Andrew Davis

Every now and then the battery in a thermostat will become low or even die. This is quite common. In fact, the same thing happened to the thermostat in my house recently. I noticed that the battery was dead because the central air wasn’t on anymore.

Most thermostats are very similar in shape, size, and even the batteries that they use. In this case, the process to change the battery in your
the thermostat is not as complicated as you might think.

Remove The Thermostat

Depending on the kind of thermostat that you have, you might need to remove it from the wall. However, you might not have to. When I changed the battery in my thermostat, I didn’t remove it from the wall at all. There is a small compartment on it that holds the battery, I was able to easily pop it right out, change the battery, and put it back in without having to use any tools. So, this might just be the case with your particular thermostat.

Remove The Battery

However, if yours is different, then remove the thermostat from the wall. You should easily see the battery compartment on the side or on the back of the thermostat. Remove the battery, take out the old battery and then insert the batteries. Ensure that the batteries are inserted correctly and are in the same position as the previous battery. If you don’t put the battery in the right way, then your thermostat isn’t going to work.

Next, you will need to put the thermostat back onto the wall in its original position. Your thermostat should now work as it is supposed. If things are different or it’s not working, you might not reprogram your thermostat. However, most likely, you won’t have to do that.

You have now successfully replaced the battery in your thermostat and attached it back to the wall. This is really all that there is to removing the old batteries and inserting new ones.
