How to check BMW engine temperature?

To check the engine coolant temperature, do the following: Push button
1. Turn ignition on or start vehicle
2. Wait until coolant temperature needle reaches normal operating range (96-104°C/204-219°F)
3. Push button again
4. Observe reading
5. If required, push third switch down once more if engine is not up to operating temperature yet, pushing the switch down a second time will read “H” in display window for a few seconds indicating that it is still not ready yet to clear text from display push any other button except 1 and 2 at the same time
How to know what each number means?
1. The number displayed shows engine coolant temperature as a number of degrees Celsius (1). If the display contains a minus sign (-) it means that freezing point of water is lower than indicated temperature.
2. The higher the number, the hotter is your engine – the lower the temperature, the colder it is (2).
3. This unit always indicates temperatures in Celsius and only changes to Fahrenheit when you press and hold button 1 for more than 4 seconds (3).
