How to clean paint off stone fireplace
David Wilson
It is very difficult to strip off paint from a stone fireplace. A sandblaster can help you escape the tedium of stripping while you’re working outside, but it’s too intrusive to use in your living room. Paint may be removed off wood fast with heat, but not from stone. Unfortunately, stripping is the only choice, so prepare to create a mess.

It’s impossible to scrap the paint even though it is weakened by the remover, it is because stones have uneven surfaces. Any chemical used in this process can lead to harmful situations, so it’s better to scrap it off. While there are other alternatives to caustic strippers, using a soy-based solution is one of the safest and most effective.
Apply it thickly.
It’s preferable to use masking tape to secure the sheets. You may now use an old paintbrush to apply a 1/8-inch or thicker coating of stripper. Required things could be gloves and inhalers. Once the process is finished cover the surface with plastic sheet.
Remove the Paint with a Brush
Take a bristle scrub brush for the purpose of removing paint. As bristle is soluble in water so we can put the brush into the water every time after use. On the other hand, soy gel protects the lead paint and also helps us to remove the remained residue.
Residue.
It may take more than one application of paint stripper to remove all of the paint, and a thin, milky residue will remain after the work is finished. You might be able to wash away most of it with plain water, but if not, you can purchase a cleaning solution from the same company that manufactures the soy gel.
