After each meal, rinse your retainer with lukewarm water.

Mix lukewarm water with some dish soap for a deeper clean (toothpastes are abrasive and can harm the retainer’s surface).

What can I use to clean my plastic retainer?

Bleach, boiling water, and even ordinary toothpaste should not be used. To keep your retainer fresh, soak it in distilled water (with baking soda and/or castile soap). Taking your retainer to the dentist to be cleaned or soaking it in white vinegar once a week can also assist.

What is the best way to remove the white substance off my plastic retainer?

Soak your retainer in distilled water for a mild buildup. Tap water should not be used since it may contain hazardous germs or minerals. Remove plaque using a soft-bristled toothbrush. The should be soaked in a mixture of baking soda along with distilled water for a thicker plaque accumulation.

How often should your plastic retainer be cleaned?

At least once a day, you should clean your retainers completely, preferably shortly before putting them in your mouth. Use cold water instead of hot. Plaque is removed and smells are eliminated by rinsing your retainers.
Soak your retainers in a denture cleaning, such as Efferdent®, at least once every two weeks to properly clean them.

Is it necessary for me to maintain my plastic retainer submerged in water?

It’s recommended to keep your retainer secure by storing it in its carrying bag, however soaking it in water can help keep it clean. To keep your retainer free of microorganisms, we recommend soaking it once a week.
Storing your retainer while it’s still wet can cause bacteria to grow and jeopardize your oral health.

Can I use Dawn dish soap to clean my retainer?

To clean your retainer, all you need is some dish soap, warm water, and a soft-bristle brush. Bacteria, such as Streptococcus, can be carried in your retainer and make you sick.

Why is there white material on my retainer?

Mineral buildup (tartar), plaque that creates cavities in teeth, or a combination of the two could cause white spots.
A retainer that keeps breaking or cracking is another symptom that it needs to be cleaned. Bacteria can harm a retainer in the same way that they can harm teeth.
