How To Fix A Running Toilet With A Button Flush

Writer Emily Cortez

If you have a dual flush toilet that is always running, it’s likely, the seal for the dual flush valve has worn down, is warped or dirty, and therefore not sealing correctly. It could also be an issue with a deficient fill valve that is continuously filling up the tank. If the valve for filling your toilet is the cause it will continue filling up the tank with water, which will be able to flow into the toilet bowl via an overflow pipe. This is likely to be one of the causes that your toilet isn’t running.

Get advice from someone, especially the one with expertise in plumbing. Here are some simple, time-saving, and practical steps to take for your plumbing flush (dual button) repair.

STEP 1

If you’ve closed off the water line then turn on the water and inspect the tank. Check if the water level is so high that it is flowing through the drain pipe. If yes then follow the steps to clean your fill valve.

Step 2

If the flushing of debris (Cleaning Solution) doesn’t solve the problem, replace the valve that fills.

There is a possibility for dirt and other debris to get stuck within the valve. It can happen at any time the water is running and could happen following the installation of a new one and a few days later or even years and months after the installation.

STEP:3

The tank is full of water, shut off the water to the toilet and note the current level of water inside the tank. Then wait 15 to 20 minutes, and then note whether there is a drain from the mark. If it does, then replace the flapper because it is the most typical issue.

STEP:4

In the event that you change the flapper but the toilet still drains down (repeat step 2 if required) then we suggest replacing the valve for flushing as this will eventually stop the continual drainage of water from the tank into the toilet bowl (where stool is to be thrown).

STEP:5

If, at any moment, there is a running toilet and you can see that water splashing on your floor, immediately shut off the water and go to the inside of the tank to determine whether the water is coming from the lid or the tank the lever. Replace the fill valve, and then replace the flush valve. The flush valve has been adjusted to the wrong level or could be blocking the way for water to safely drain to the bowl of your toilet. If the water is draining and the water is draining out of the bottom of the tank, replace the washers and bolts on the tank.
