How to fold down back seats in bmw 5 series?

Writer Gabriel Cooper

BMW has made it easy to fold down the back seats in the 5 series. You can do it manually or electronically, depending on what kind of seat you have. There are a few screws and bolts that need to be removed, but once they are out of the way, folding down the seat is a breeze. Make sure you reconnect the battery before putting everything back together.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal before you start – this is necessary to unlock the seats electronically. Remove 2 screws on each side that hold the trim in place. You can also remove covers for seat belt hardware – do not forget to put them back later. They come off by pulling from the bottom.
There are two more screws at the bottom of the backrest – remove them and set the backrest aside:
Now fold the seat down – it is easiest if you start with the front:
In addition, here is how it looks when folded down:
To put it back together, just do everything in reverse. Make sure you reconnect the battery before you put the trim or covers back. The difference between electric and manual folding seats is how the motors are activated, so this job applies to both kinds of seats.
However, if your seatback is locked, you will need to unlock it before folding the seat down. To do this, disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for a few minutes. This will reset the system and allow you to fold the seats down.
There are a few other things you can do with the back seats in a BMW 5 series – like fold them forward to create more cargo space or remove them altogether. I will discuss those in a future article. For now, enjoy folding down your seats and taking advantage of the extra space.
