To switch on the pilot light of a Napoleon gas fireplace, follow the instructions below.

  1. Make the knob turn clockwise until it is in the off position.
  2. For five (5) minutes before you flush all gas. If you smell gas even on the floor, stop! If you do not detect any gas, go on to the following step.
  3. The pilot is located just in front of the backlog.
  4. Turn the gas knob counter-clockwise to the pilot.
  5. Press a little and hold the gas knob while you light the pilot by pressing the button to ignite the pilot. Hold the knob for about one minute, then let it go. If the pilot doesn’t continue to burn then repeat steps 1-5.
  6. Once the pilot is on, depress the gas button and then turn it counter-clockwise until you reach the “On” position.
  7. If you have a valve for flame adjustments, press and turn the knob until the highest setting.
  8. If the appliance is equipped with a remote on-off switch or thermostat, the main burner might not be lit when you change the value to the on position. The remote switch should be on for the burner to be ignited.
  9. Make sure that all electrically connected to the fireplace is off.

To ensure your safety, read before lighting:

  1. The fireplace has an ignition source that must be lit manually. Lighting guidelines must be adhered to precisely.
  2. Only use your hands to move the knob to control the gas. Never use tools. If the knob is unable to be turned by hand, you should not attempt to repair it. Instead, call Sundance Energy for a qualified technician to assist you. Repairs made with force or effort could cause a fire or explosion.
  3. Don’t use the fireplaces when any component has been in the water. Contact Sundance Energy to inspect the fireplace and to replace any component that is part of the system control as well as any gas controls that have been submerged.
