How To Make A Snake Chain Necklace?

Writer Ethan Hayes

How are snake chains made?

Rather than using wire, snake chains are made with sheet metal. These metal cords have a slender, tubular design. Instead of the open links found in most jewelry chains, snake is made from thin, cut sheet plates for a more substantial appearance. Care should be taken when using snake chains.

How do you cut snake chain?

Wire cutters or a jewelry saw and blade can be used to cut the snake chain to the length you desire. End caps must fit over the end of a snake chain before they can be soldered on. A final check is to see if the end caps and snake chain are compatible with the clasp and jump rings. The jump ring and catch must be able to fit through the loop on the end caps. ‘

How do you attach a snake chain?

Use chain terminators on both ends of woven chains, such as snake chain, to attach a clasp or create a jumpring attachment point. To keep the jumpring in place, dab it with Loctite® 409 Gel.

What is a good thickness for a chain?

The thicker the chain, the more long-lasting it is. Small to medium-sized pendants can be safely attached to chains ranging from 1mm to 1.5mm in thickness. Remember that a thinner chain is less sturdy, even if it appears to be more delicate.
