One of the easiest ways to wash your toilet manually is to pour an entire bucket of water into the bowl of your toilet. All you need is the bucket to hold one gallon or two of water. Older toilets could require 3 to 5 gallons of water in order for flushing to get started.
To flush your toilet manually:
- Make sure to fill a bucket with at the very least 1 gallon of water.
- Start by pouring water in the bowl gradually at first before slowly speeding up, then pour the rest in the container.
- If it is done properly, the water will be able to push the waste inside the toilet out of the pipes and your toilet will then flush.
2. Pour Water Into the Toilet Tank
Most toilet problems can be traced to issues with the tank of your toilet. If your toilet doesn’t flush the way it should, there could be an issue with the tank that holds water. To resolve the issue you can flush the toilet by pouring water into the toilet tank.
For this you’ll require an empty bucket filled with water. In order to flush your toilet,
- Take off the tank cover for your toilet.
- Put the water in the tank to the water line or one inch lower than the edge. The amount of water you’ll require to flush the toilet is dependent on the type of toilet at home.
- Try pressing the lever to flush. If the toilet does not flush proceed for the next one.
Pull the Rubber Flapper in the Toilet Tank
The flapper made of rubber in the tank of your toilet is a crucial part of the flushing of your toilet. If pressing the handle on your toilet does not result in a flush then the flapper might need replacement. When replacing the flapper, test it by pulling it upwards by hand for the purpose of flushing your toilet.
To accomplish this:
- Lift the lid off the toilet tank.
- If the chain is not connected from its handle arm grasp your loose chain, then slide the chain onto the hook that is at the top of the arm. Make sure to press the handle to flush.
- If you’re still having trouble resolving the issue, ensure that the flapper is sitting over the opening in the base of the tank. If not, replace it and you’ll see the tank filling up with water.
- If there isn’t enough water in the tank, you need to determine if the chain has been pulled out of the flapper. If the chain is loose, reconnect it.
If your toilet does not automatically flush after following these actions, your flapper inside the tank in your toilet might require replacement.
