Take a flat object like a folded-up piece of paper or your finger and press down on it until you hear two clicks. After this, simply lift the release lever up. This will open the trunk. Remember to close the trunk using the release lever so that it closes securely.
Why do you need to press down on the release lever?
The BMW X6 is a luxury vehicle and comes with a lot of electrical features. One of these is a motion sensor that determines if you’re in the trunk or not before it will open. The problem with this feature is that you wouldn’t want someone to open your trunk while you are inside it. This motion sensor will override this safety feature if you open the trunk with your hands or body.
The release lever is the manual override for this motion sensor. By pressing down on it, you are telling the car that you are not inside of it before releasing it. This then overrides any sensors that tell the trunk to remain closed when you are still in it.
How long does it take for the trunk manually to open?
It takes about two seconds for the trunk to open once you have released the lever. This is because the trunk needs time to reset itself after you have opened it. If you try to open it again before it has had a chance to do this, it will not work.
