Luxury car manufacturer Lexus has created a garage door opener as an accessory to the brand’s LS 460 F Sport. The door uses dual infrared beams, which can be programmed using a remote control commonly used for TV sets.
The operating frequency is 36 kHz and each remote control contains 4 buttons, allowing for 16 different remotes (codes) that can be used interchangeably at any time. This means that it does not matter which remote you use to open or close the garage door – all of them will work. There is only one exception: if another nearby garage is operating on the same 4-digit code as your garage door opener, then the two doors cannot operate simultaneously (i.e., both will fail to open).
The programming procedure is very easy and can be completed in just a few minutes. First, open the garage door using the manual override switch (see your owner’s manual for instructions on how to do this). Hold down one of the buttons on the remote control while pointing it at the infrared receiver on the garage door. The door should now open or close. If it does not, then press and hold down the same button again while slowly moving the remote control towards (and eventually into) direct line-of-sight with the receiver. You will know when you are in direct line-of-sight because the red light on the remote control will start blinking.
Once you have opened or closed the garage door, release the button and press another one of the buttons on the remote control. Repeat step 3 several times with each button until all 4 buttons have been used. Your garage door opener is now programmed and you can close your garage door using any remote control (again, they are all interchangeable).
No special tools or equipment is required for programming, but make sure to put batteries in all your remotes before you start. Finally, note that if your battery dies while programming the garage door opener then you will need to repeat steps 1 through 5 with a new set of batteries before attempting to program it again.
