How To Remove Hard Water Stains From Granite

Writer Rachel Davis

Granite countertops can look fantastic for years and require very little maintenance. Use water and mild soap or even a natural stone cleaning product on a daily basis to keep your stone clean. Cleaning solutions that are acidic or abrasive can harm the sealant on your countertop.

Vinegary substances like champagne, oranges or white vinegar, even powder and domestic soap, might break it down the sealing and damage the ground though not washed up immediately enough.

To eliminate excess marks, use a moderate cleanser and water to remove the discoloration, subsequently scrape carefully with a soft bristled toothbrush. After cleansing with safe drinking water, towel drying. Apply the mixture of bicarbonate carbonated water, or powder with something like a liquid sample of nitrogen, bleaching, or hydrochloric acid for rather more tenacious discoloration. Scrub gently with a brush and completely rinse. The stain may require multiple applications to be removed.

Wash carefully with just a Toothpick or carefully scraped with a sharp knife to remove obstinate liquid rings around with a faucet formed by soft water which thus sits upon that enamel, then sweep away the residual with a gentle, damp towel.

Use a poultice, or extractor, for particularly persistent stains. You can buy ultramafic plaster solutions at a construction or granite surface consignment shop, and you can manufacture cleaning homemade poultice with cornstarch and hydrochloric acid. The heavy, pasty mixture should indeed be liberally sprayed, subsequently wrapped with a canvas sheet as well as painter’s recording from around corners. Wait at least 1 Day for the paste to set before scraping it off and rinsing the countertop with water.

This technique absorbs the stain and forces any existing stains deep into the granite. Whenever appropriate, the cleansed surface can really be repacked. It’s conceivable that ceramic tiles would need to be repacked from period to period. Contact a stone maintenance professional to have your granite resealed when water on the surface no longer beads up.
