Respond quickly if a spill happens.
Because of their delicate and porous properties, marble and natural stone surfaces are prone to staining and leaving the stone looking hard and dull. If you’re quick to react and find the stain prior to it affecting your stone, you’ll be able to get rid of the stain.
Everything can be salvaged if a stain or spill occurs and you don’t have a specific marble cleaner at home. Baking soda (also called Bicarbonate of soda) is popular for its cleaning abilities, but it can also be extremely effective in taking off stains from your stone or marble floor or any other surface.
All marble, travertine limestone, terracotta, and stone surfaces must be sealed. Seals close the pores of your marble’s surface, assisting in stopping spills from infiltrating the stone and causing staining and discoloration. Spills that contain acid, such as wine, fruit juice, urine, vomit, and other liquids, can etch the surface of your marble.
The result is stains that appear like rough and dull patches on the floor of your marble. Seals wear down with time and must be cleaned and re-coated periodically.
The sealing of your marble will not fully protect it from spills. But, it gives you some time to clean up spills before it reaches the stone.
Using a baking soda poultice.
Make sure to clean up the spill as soon as you can to aid in preventing it from penetrating your stone.
Apply water to the affected area.
Fill the entire area using baking soda and mix it in with water until it has an ice-cream-like texture over the entire area.
Cover the entire area in plastic and then tape it. Stay for up to 24 hours.
Clean the surface using water and mild soap after 24 hours. Dry with the help of a cloth that is clean to increase the shine.
The possibility exists to repeat the procedure when the stain isn’t removed.
