How To Remove Water Stains From Lacquered Wood
John Campbell
The lacquer finish not only provides an elegant, smooth, glossy surface for your furniture but also protects the wood from being damaged. As time passes, the layer of lacquer finish could create small cracks as the finish disintegrates. The cracks absorb any moisture that they encounter, like the condensation that forms on the glass’s bottom and then turn cloudy white. The resulting rings can stain the surface and create an eye-sore. Before putting the ring in a restorer, you can try to remove the ring on your own using some simple methods.

Fold a towel in half twice crosswise to form an oval. Scoop a tablespoonful of mayonnaise or petroleum jelly using a spoon made of plastic. Clean the liquid onto the smooth surface of the towel.
Apply mayonnaise or the jelly on the surface of the water stain on the lacquer finish, covering the entire area with a 1/8-inch thick layer. Allow it to rest on the stain’s surface for 8 to 12 hours for the oil to absorb into the finish, and then remove the water that caused the stain.
Put a cotton towel under running water and soak it completely. Blot the cloth till it ceases to drip but remains damp. Wipe any excess mayonnaise or jelly off the lacquered area with a damp, damp cloth.
The lacquered surface should be sprayed with oil-based polish for furniture. Clean the polish off the surface using a dry, clean cotton cloth.
Heat Removal
Turn on your iron and set the setting of the iron in the middle setting. Then, turn off the steam valve, should it be present, to make sure that the iron stays dry. Ten minutes is enough to let the iron fully heat up.
Clean and dry the white cotton towel over any water stain over the surface of the lacquer.
Place the iron over the cloth, centered over the stain of the ring. The iron should be pressed down for 3 to 5 minutes.
Remove the iron and then lift the cloth off the surface. Look at the surface to see whether the ring is visible. Change the material and apply the iron the same way as before. Repeat the procedure until the stain has completely gone.
