How to respond to good luck
Gabriel Cooper
It’s important to celebrate life’s little victories. If you got a promotion at your job, scored a date with that cute somebody, or witnessed something truly inspiring: It’s time to party! However, there comes the question of how to properly respond when things may seem too good to be true – especially during hard times. I think it boils down to how you want people to see you.
Silky Terrier Dog Breed Playing Aro... Silky Terrier Dog Breed Playing AroundIf you feel like somebody may be taking advantage of your good luck, don’t show it. Fake joy, fake happiness, and fake celebration. Smile for the sake of appreciation and ask yourself why they’re congratulating you (and what for). If there is no reason to congratulate or celebrate – keep your feelings bottled up inside. When somebody tells you that they think it’s great that “everything went well” – take a look at the bigger picture before responding with gratitude. If things were really going well, what major event do you think happened? The last time I checked, one person getting lucky doesn’t make the world spin around twice as fast.
It’s easy for me to say these things because I’ve only had positive things happen to me since I moved out of my parent’s house. A promotion, an adorable boyfriend, and countless friends that are supportive of whatever life throws my way. Even if people around you seem like they’re cheering for your demise (for whatever reason) – don’t let the negativity affect your day or future happiness. Fake it till you make it! If you believe in yourself, others will believe in you too.
Just say Thanks
Personally, I love it when somebody congratulates me on my good fortune. It’s not only a way of showing appreciation but also getting to know more people! If somebody invades your personal space or gives you some dap – take the time out of your day to express genuine gratitude and think about how hard they work for what they have (or what they’re working towards).
