Place bottles in dishwasher.

  • Place bottles in dishwasher.
  • Do not put vinegar directly on top of bleach. Not only can this cause a dangerous chemical reaction, but it will also make the dishwasher smell like vinegar for days to come.
  • Do not put vinegar on top of the dishwasher, either, the same goes here. It won’t make your life any more manageable when you have to clean up a mess later on because the bottle shattered from being too close to something hot and moving at high speeds.

Pour about 1/2 cup of bleach and 2 tbsp of vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher (do not put the vinegar on top of the bleach).

  • Pour about 1/2 cup of bleach and 2 tbsp of vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher (do not put the vinegar on top of the bleach). This will help kill off any bacteria and mold in your wine bottles.
  • Place all your clean, empty wine bottles into their respective racks inside your dishwasher. Make sure they stand upright, with no wobbling or tipping over. Do not stack them on top of each other, this could cause them to break from impact or pressure against one another.
  • Set up a regular cycle for washing dishes (see below for more info about how to set up a wash). You want to go by manufacturer instructions here if you aren’t sure what setting works best for you, but we found that our machine worked best when we used its “Rinse Only” option since it doesn’t heat water at all, so there’s no chance of overheating anything or damaging delicate items like glassware.”

Run the dishwasher empty on the hot water cycle, including the drying cycle.

If you want to sterilize wine bottles in a dishwasher, the first step is to run the dishwasher empty on a hot water cycle. Do not put the bottles in with dishes, glasses, or silverware. Do not put them in with pots and pans. The best place for them is at the bottom of the machine, where there’s no heat from above, and they won’t get bumped around by other items.
