Winter is cold, so you should have traps that are warm enough for raccoons to stay in the trap comfortably.
You need something that will trigger their curiosity to get into your trapping stuff. It could be some food, a smell, a sound or anything else that can trigger their curiosity.
The timing is very important. What is the best time to trap raccoons in winter? It has a lot to do with their feeding pattern. So, make sure you find out when they are out.
Always be ready for the action – make sure you are not too tense or excited, or else you might miss it!
How do you trap raccoons in winter?
When trapping raccoons in winter, we use the same technique we use in trapping animals all year round.
Make sure you have at least one good and trustworthy lure that will trigger their curiosity and push them into your trap. It could be some food or a women’s perfume spray that you can buy in any local shop. Lure it with something, not just an empty box!
Place the bait inside your box/trap, so once they get inside they won’t wish to come back out again. That is because raccoons are usually nocturnal animals and love sleeping during the daytime, so if they find themselves trapped somewhere don’t expect them to start running out of there on their own – This is where most people fail… for this type of weather it is best to use a good-sized box, where you can lay some blankets or cushions inside.
Covered with one more blanket on top of it – this way your animal won’t freeze to death… unless he/she is really unlucky!
Make sure the trap is hidden. Always check your traps every day so you won’t be surprised by anything
