How to turn off hdc on bmw?
Ethan Hayes
There are a few ways that you can turn off the Hill Descent Control on your BMW. The first is to use the iDrive controller to navigate to the Vehicle Settings menu. From there, scroll down to the Driveline sub-menu and select Traction Control. You will then see an option for Hill Descent Control. Toggle the switch off to disable the feature.
The second way is to use the buttons on the climate control panel. With the car turned off, press and hold the SETTINGS button until “OFF” appears on the display. Then press either of the two arrows below it to toggle between “HDC Active” and “HDC Inactive”. Alternatively, you can press either of the two buttons on the climate control panel to disable HDC.
Doing it this way has the added benefit of turning off Electronic Stability Control as well. You should note that pressing any other button or rotating the iDrive controller’s selector knob will have no effect–until you switch out of “OFF” mode by pressing another button.
My car does not have hdc so I used a different method to test this information before posting it here…I simply turned my fan up all the way after startup and let it run for ~5 minutes to see if Hill Descent would engage before shutting off….and sure enough 5-10 seconds later, full speed downhill…..totally defeats its purpose if you live in a hilly area.
If you’re not comfortable disabling Hill Descent Control manually, you can always take your car to a dealership or mechanic to have them do it for you. Just be sure to ask beforehand so you know what to expect. Hill Descent Control is a great feature, but it’s important to remember that it’s not necessary in every situation. With a little bit of practice, you’ll be able to disable HDC quickly and easily whenever you need to. Thanks for reading!
