With your car key still in the ignition, turn the steering wheel left and right until you hear a beep. With another key turn (still with the first key in the ignition) move the steering wheel to 0 position (straight ahead).
Press 0 for at least 5 seconds. All lights on your iDrive controller should flash and then go dark. To turn on the lights, simply press any button on your iDrive controller and they will come back again.
This procedure will only work once. To turn off teh iDrive controller, remove your key from the ignition. However when you turn it back on, the drivers display is blank when driving. I searched all day and i think I found my answer… do this in your car:
You need to go into the service menu. The service menu is in your radio so u can at least use that while you are waiting for your dealer to find out how to reset the system.
Now i do NOT know if this will work for u so use it at your own risk, but what you need to do is turn on the ignition and wait until your clock pops up.
If it doesn’t pop up within 10 sec then turn off the ignition and try again til it appears. Once it is there, wait 10 seconds.
Now press and hold down tuner until “clear center” displays on your radio (you should be still holding tuner). let go of tuner an type in 0 0 0 0 on your number pad or however long depending on how many times you press buttons , make sure to only press the clear button no other key after enter. It should display “clr.” now plug out your phone and you should be good to go.
Make sure to explain this before they hook it up b/c u cannot do anything else without your phone.
