Do you need to wash alpaca socks?

Lay them out on a flat surface to dry out of direct sunlight. Because they don’t need to be washed after each use, alpaca socks are popular among hikers and campers. Alpaca does not retain moisture or bacteria that causes odor, so it can be worn multiple times before needing to be washed.

Can alpaca be machine washed?

Is my alpaca sweater washable? Sweaters made entirely of alpaca wool can be cleaned in the dishwasher. Wash your alpaca sweater with the wool cycle on your washing machine. Cold water and delicate settings can be used instead of a wool setting if your washing machine does not have one.

Bleach should not be used. Drying can be done either by hanging or lying flat. Socks last longer when not dried in the dryer. If they’re going to be dried, don’t use heat.

We recommend dry cleaning or hand washing alpaca wool in warm water (between 10 and 20 degrees Celsius) with a mild shampoo, even though alpaca wool is extremely resistant and performs better than any other wool after machine washing.
