Is acrylic yarn safe for babies?

Writer Caleb Butler

No, it is not considered safe for infants and very small children, because acrylic fibers are created using potentially hazardous chemicals (compounds) that can be quite irritating to the skin. It’s okay to use very small amounts of acrylic in baby clothes, but it should be blended with at least 40% wool or cotton to provide enough warmth for outdoor wear.

Acrylic yarn can cause rashes due to its chemical makeup. I do not recommend using this material for baby things unless you are making something that is only going to be worn indoors. The chemicals in the acrylic can easily irritate the skin, causing a rash.

The safe of yarn in your babies depends on many factors below the yarn you are using, because of what kind of material your yarn is made it also can be decided if it is safe for babies. Well, acrylic yarn is one of the materials that has been used to manufacture yarn, people use it because it has a cheap price and is simple to use either.

People usually think that this kind of yarn is not good for babies’ health, although from research it has been said that acrylic yarn can be used in babies especially when you are making a sweater for them to wear during the winter.

if you want to make sure that your babies are safe when they wear the sweater, make sure it’s not too tight for them since acryl yarn can absorb their sweat easily and damp skin is dangerous for babies.

You might be curious what kind of things should you look for when you are buying yarn for your babies. Well, first of all, make sure the material is safe for them, second always ask someone about the brand before you buy it to avoid getting the cheap quality acrylic yarn. Remember that safety is the most important thing besides design and creativity.
