Don’t use your standard household vacuum to remove the ashes; that vacuum isn’t made for the job. You may run into two issues while using a standard vacuum to clean your fireplace:
1. There’s a chance the machine will be ruined. A vacuum system can damage the system’s vulnerable sections if there are hot embers in the ash pile that aren’t clearly apparent. A fire that starts in the vacuum’s collection area is also a possibility.
2. Particles of ash can elude capture and wind up in the air. Due to the finer particle size of ash dust, a typical vacuum cleaner’s filter will not catch it. Ash dust inhalation is dangerous for people. When working in an ash-filled atmosphere, you should always wear a respirator mask and safety glasses, much like painters do.
An ash vacuum should be purchased as soon as you put in a new wood-burning fireplace or stove or as soon as you move into a new house with one. Ash vacuums have metal retaining canisters to protect the heat of ashes from a fireplace from escaping if they are accidentally pulled out. Aside from the fact that they’re heat-resistant, ash vacuum hoses are also safer than plastic ones, which are the most common.
Ash vacuums not only prevent fires but also collect even the smallest ash particles thanks to specialized filters. As well as being sprayed into the air, home vacuum ash can make its way through the filter and into the engine, resulting in serious damage.
