Pilot Wont Stay Lit On Gas Fireplace?

Why does my pilot light not stay lit on my gas fireplace?
A thermocouple may be to blame if your gas fireplace’s pilot light fails to stay lit. The ignition system includes a thermocouple as a safety device. Unless the pilot light is lit, the gas valve will not open.
When I release the pilot button the flame goes out?
Replacement of the thermocouple is likely if the pilot light can be lit but goes out when the control knob is released. However, when the thermocouple is damaged, this safety device loses its ability to regulate gas flow.
Why does my gas fireplace shut off after a few minutes?
The main burners’ draught will disturb a “lazy” flame if dust accumulates in the pilot assembly and the pilot needs to be cleaned out. Temperature drop at thermocouple tip because flame lifts away from thermocouple. This causes the gas valve to be turned off.
Can you clean a thermocouple?
It’s possible to clean a thermocouple, but you’ll need to use a light touch to get the job done right. Use steel wool or emery cloth to lightly clean the tip of the thermocouple after removing it from the process assembly. Thermocouple cleaning is not a remedy for a problem like inaccurate readings.
What does a thermocouple do in a gas fireplace?
Your fireplace’s gas valve is controlled by a thermocouple, a small metal probe that monitors the surrounding temperature to ensure the gas is ignited when necessary. Look to see if the thermocouple is screwed in securely and is positioned correctly to ensure it is working properly.
