Should I leave my puppy to cry at night?

Writer Andrew Davis

Experts advise against allowing your puppy to cry at night. It’s likely to exacerbate their anxiety and lead to behavioral issues. Not only will you hear it, but your neighbors will as well. Even if you live in a soundproof house or a mansion, the noise will be audible even when they are alone.

What should you do if your new puppy starts crying in the middle of the night?

If your puppy does wake up and cry, check to see if they need to go to the bathroom (many young puppies will not be able to hold their bladder through the night yet). Then gently place them back in their bed. Try not to overburden them with attention and fuss – just enough to make them feel at ease.

How long should I leave a puppy crying in the middle of the night?

It is conditional. Some puppies cry every night for the first one or two weeks, while others cry only the first one or two nights. Your puppy may cry all night, or he may only cry for an hour or so until he falls asleep.

Should I ignore my puppy’s crate crying at night?

If your dog whines or cries while in his crate at night, it can be difficult to determine whether he is whining to be let out or if he needs to go outside to eliminate. If you believe your dog does not need to eliminate, the best course of action is to ignore him until he stops whining.

Should I let my puppy scream?

You should never leave a puppy to cry when they are in need of the fundamentals, as this can lead to problems with training later on. It can be difficult not to give in to their little whimpering voices and go and comfort them at this point, as doing so may lead to them crying for attention in the future.

Should I ignore my dog’s nighttime cries?

Although you may have many sleepless nights at first, it is best to ignore any barking or whining at night from the start. It will not harm your dog as long as it is comfortable, and this attention seeking behavior should only last a short time.
