Should gowns touch the floor?
Lindsay Price nailed it in this red Valentino, wearing the fabric to the floor with just a slight train trailing behind her (like Hilary Swank in this Vionnet number). It will look like you didn’t go to a tailor if you go somewhere in the middle.
How far off the ground should a dress be?
To what height should a floor-length gown be worn? For floor length hems, I usually leave about 1/8″-1/4″ between the front and back of the hem free to move around, but if the design calls for it, I’ll allow a little bit of sag in the back.
Are bridesmaid dresses supposed to touch the floor?
If you’re having an indoor wedding, you may want to opt for a floor-length gown with a classy hem. It’s also important to think about your own personal style. If tripping is a problem for you when wearing heels, aim for 1 inch off the floor. We don’t recommend sacrificing your health or well-being for the sake of fashion.
Should you size up or down in wedding dress?
Full-figured brides must order dresses in sizes they normally would not order because many designers cut their dresses small. To get the perfect fit, even the most petite brides must occasionally order a size larger than their actual size. On your special day, your wedding dress should feel and look like it was custom-made just for you.
How many inches above the knee should a dress be?
Keep your dress or skirt at least two inches above your knee if you’re tall, short, or somewhere in between. The length of business suits and other formal attire should be increased even further. To be safe, I’d limit the length of your dresses and skirts to no less than an inch above your knee.
When your dress is too long?
Machine or hand stitching, sewing, or applying fabric glue can permanently shorten a dress. With safety pins, knotting loose fabric, or a belt, you can make a dress shorter for a short period of time by shortening the hem.
