Do you worry that braces will cause you to miss Halloween? It’s a scary thought, but don’t worry! The enjoyment of good-quality candy while wearing braces is an alternative. However, you must be careful not to damage the braces and risk successful orthodontic treatment by knowing what candy can loosen the brackets that attach to your teeth.

Chocolates to avoid when using braces

They can cause damage to orthodontic appliances and may cause your orthodontic treatment to be delayed. Avoid:

  • Suckers
  • Nuts
  • Popcorn
  • Chewy candy
  • Jellybeans
  • Licorice
  • Bubble gum
  • Caramels
  • Sweets with a sour taste
  • Hard candy
  • Taffy

Candy you can eat while braces on

Softer, melt-in-your-mouth-type candies are thought to be safer in regards to keeping braces in place. Be careful with these sweets:

  • Choco (without any caramel, nuts, or caramel)
  • Marshmallow
  • Cookies
  • 3 Musketeers
  • Peanut butter cups
  • KitKats

Be mindful that when you indulge in too much sugar, it can cause in excess of any kind could build up on your braces, causing lasting white spots (decalcification) as well as cavities or gum diseases (gingivitis). Be sure to clean thoroughly around your braces, particularly after you’ve indulged in sweet snacks!

There’s no reason to be a part of the Halloween enjoyable time, but indulge in sweets in moderation and be mindful of your snack choices! If you find an unattached bracket to the tooth, contact your dentist as soon as possible to schedule an appointment to fix the loose bracket so that the treatment doesn’t get delayed.
