American Bullfrog is also known as the bullfrog, and as the name indicates its native to North America. It normally inhabits swamps, rivers, lakes, and other large water bodies. It remains at the tadpole stage for up to 2 years. The baritone call of a bullfrog is so loud and resonant that it resembles the mooing of a cow or bull. That’s why it is named a bullfrog. It belongs to class amphibians. Eggs hatch in 4 to 5 days. Tadpoles start eating with algae. It is sexually dimorphic. An adult bullfrog weighs around 2 pounds and its size is more than 8 inches. They can generally leap about 1 meter. They are very aggressive when they are protecting their young ones and their territory. Their skin has a poisonous layer, but still, they are eaten in North America. They lay about 12000 tiny eggs at a time covered under a thin protective jelly. Bullfrogs are yellow to green in color with small dark brown to black spots on their body, especially on the back. The typical lifespan of an American bullfrog is 5 to 7 years in the wild and around 16 years in captivity. They mostly feed on insects.

American bullfrogs are the ambush hunters. They can eat anything that fits in their mouth. American bullfrogs mainly eat small insects, crayfish, butterflies, slugs, dragonflies, snails, other tadpoles, small mammals, snakes, crustaceans, salamanders, aquatic eggs, worms, turtles, and even small birds. Due to their cannibalistic behavior, American bullfrogs can even eat their own kind.
American bullfrogs like to eat mites, ticks, crickets, locusts, and little bugs.

Despite being predators, American bullfrogs also like to eat algae and aquatic plants like water lily, water lettuce, Nuphar japonica, yellow water lily, etc.
