What Do Baby Bullfrogs Eat?

Baby Bullfrogs are native to the Northern US. Typical habitats of baby bullfrogs include rivers, swamps, lakes, and other huge water bodies. Baby Bullfrog remains at the tadpole stage for up to 2 years. The baritone call of a bullfrog is so loud and resonant that it resembles the mooing of a cow or bull. That’s why it is named a bullfrog. It belongs to class amphibians. Eggs hatch in 4 to 5 days. Tadpoles start eating with algae. It is sexually dimorphic. An adult bullfrog weighs around 2 pounds and its size is more than 8 inches and a baby bullfrog is around 1 to 2 inches and weighs a few grams to half an ounce. Adult bullfrogs can generally leap about 1 meter but baby Bullfrogs might leap a bit higher as they have less body weight. They are protected by their adult ones in their territory.

When eggs are laid, they are placed under a protective jelly layer. Bullfrogs are yellow to green in color with small dark brown to black spots on their body, especially on the back. The typical lifespan of a bullfrog if it reaches adulthood is 5 to 7 years in the wild and around 16 years in captivity. They mostly feed on insects.
Insects and other animals
Baby bullfrogs feed on little insects. They can eat anything that fits in their mouth. Baby Bullfrogs eat small insects, crayfish, butterflies, slugs, dragonflies, snails, other tadpoles, small mammals, snakes, crustaceans, salamanders, aquatic eggs, worms, turtles, and even small birds. Sometimes they are eaten by their adult ones. Baby Bullfrogs like to eat mites, ticks, crickets, locusts, and little bugs.
Plants
Despite being predators, Baby Bullfrogs also like to eat algae and mini aquatic plants like water lily, water lettuce, yellow water lily, etc.
