Whether it’s a staple diet with protein-packed feeding or occasional treats, baby chameleons need to be fed properly. After all, they are easily stressed if they are faced with inadequate resources or handled inappropriately.

So what do baby chameleons eat? They eat plenty of food, constituting a dozen of insects of various kinds. We’ll highlight what they prefer to eat and avoid.

Insects, Animals, and Fish

Being insectivorous reptiles, baby chameleons consume a bunch of varieties of insects. These are widely available as food sources that baby chameleons easily capture with their tongues.

Using their tongue, baby chameleons can eat crickets, cockroaches, locusts, stick bugs, fruit flies, and more. In fact, baby chameleons eat as many as eight to twelve a day. Bear in mind, though, that baby chameleons can’t eat large crickets.

As a rule of thumb, baby chameleons can consume crickets that are relatively smaller than their heads. As for worms, baby chameleons can eat mealworms, superworms, hornworms, earthworms, silkworms, and dubia roaches.

You should gut load them with a blend of various insects so they are well fed, and not overfed. All in all, baby chameleons delightedly consume whatever flies and crawls as long as it is an insect! In fact, baby chameleons prefer plenty of feeder bugs.

Fruit, Vegetables, and Plants

Along with the staple diet of insects, baby chameleons enjoy treats including fresh fruit. In that regard, it should be nicely sliced and served. That said, baby chameleons can eat fruit, apples, melons, berries, and more.
