Baby killdeer are omnivorous baby birds because they feed on plants as well as small insects and bugs. Their diet contains a huge portion of insects and bugs, but sometimes they also eat seeds and plants.

Baby killdeer are abundant in America. They are also found in Canada and in some other parts of the world. In winters, they migrate along with their parents towards Mexico and Central America. Killdeer babies are found on open ground in their nests. Killdeer babies are found on gravel where there is plenty of food so they can eat easily.

The size of a baby killdeer is about 1 to 2 inches in length. Killdeers hatch their eggs for about 26 to 28 days. When a baby killdeer is born he remains in the nest for a day then he moves to feed himself.

Insects and bugs

The major portion of a baby killdeer diet contains bugs and insects. They mostly eat soft-bodied insects. Baby killdeer can eat grubs, mosquitoes, caterpillars, grasshoppers, beetles, and flies. Baby killdeer also eat worms such as earthworms, wax worms, mealworms, and other bugs like ticks, spiders, and snails. Baby killdeers will eat mosquito larvae and blood worms. Baby killdeer also like to eat small fish and shrimps such as brine shrimp. Baby killdeers do eat sod, webworms, and crayfish.

Baby killdeer eat a lot and they eat 2 to 3 times a day. In captivity, Baby killdeer mainly eat worms such as bloodworms, spiders, larvae, and brine shrimps.

Fruits and seeds

Baby killdeer also eat fruits and seeds in small quantities. Baby killdeer can eat fruits like berries and bananas. Also, Baby killdeer eat seeds such as suet, sunflower seeds, safflower seeds, and peanuts.
