For approximately three weeks after birth, newborn baby rats consume their mother’s milk. After that, babies can start eating solid meals, but they may need to nurse for a few more weeks while they become used to new foods and flavors. After that, the baby rats are introduced to an adult diet. Baby rats eat around six or more times a day.

Until 4-5 weeks of age, orphan rats must be supplemented with human soy baby formula and require assistance while feeding on a dish; however, they can take solid food from 2-3 weeks of age. Rats under the age of two weeks must be fostered with a nursing mother rat or hand-fed until they reach adulthood.

Baby rats when they are grown can eat carrots, ripe bananas, apples, peanut butter, bread, rice, and also solid food. You can also feed them cheese sometimes.

Baby rats are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and animals. However, many of them prefer meat when it is available. Humans are the principal food source for rats. They will forage through rubbish or consume any unprotected food.

They are healthiest when they eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, and meats. As a result, the optimal rat diet comprises primarily of fresh fruits and vegetables, with a tiny part of rat pellets or rat cube food added on a daily basis.

Animals and Insects

Baby rats eat small animals and insects. As soon as the infants are four to six weeks old, you should begin introducing them to foods that they will encounter in the wild. Make sure to provide them with live mealworms from a pet store, nuts in their shells, and a variety of fruits, vegetables, and grains to keep them happy.
