These baby turtles remain with their parents for a number of days but they learn how to eat and survive. Female turtles don’t care for their young ones after they are fully trained to hunt and cam forage by themselves.

Baby red eared slider turtles like the adult ones remain in fresh water as well as on sandy land. Baby red eared slider turtles are very small in size. The average size of a baby red eared slider is about 1 inch in length.

Insects and aquatic animals

Baby red eared sliders forage on a variety of insects and small animals. Baby red eared slider turtles can eat moths, earthworms, mealworms, wax worms, tadpoles, snails and small crustaceans such as shrimps and lobsters. Baby red eared slider turtles also eat ants, beetles, crickets, silkworms, bloodworms, daphnia, krill, worms, caterpillars, and grasshoppers. They may feed on dragonfly larvae and other bug larvae. They occasionally feed on a dead and decaying matter such as dead fish and dead frogs.

Baby red eared slider turtles eat almost every day. These baby turtles know very well how to survive in the wild and they can survive for at least 4 weeks without eating.

Vegetation and fruits

Baby red eared slider turtles eat various sea plants and fruits. Baby red eared slider turtles can eat duckweed, water lettuce, frog bits, azolla, and hyacinth. Baby red eared slider turtles also eat other vegetables like carrots, squash, spinach, broccoli, and green beans. They feed on squash, oranges.
