Writer Caleb Butler

Baby sharks are commonly known as shark pups. There are several types of sharks, and all are different from each other. Fully developed shark pups are born or hatched.

Yes! Sharks are born in three ways depending on the type. The mother shark births some, others hatch from the eggs inside the mother’s body and are born, and the remaining hatch from the eggs laid by mothers in several amounts. The mother shark looks for a safe place to deliver its eggs but leaves the pups to live independently. They fight for their lives fighting with siblings and other sharks to survive.

What Baby Sharks Look Like?

The shark pups by birth are already about 3 feet to 5 feet long on average. Shark pups are born with diverse shapes, colors, and sizes and sometimes are not easy to differentiate from other shark species. Typically, shark pups are round and thick in the center and pointed and thin towards the end. This shape is a cut to swim easily despite their weight and size. Some have long, pointed noses, while others have flat horizontal faces. In comparison, some species like angel sharks and wobbegong sharks are flatter in appearance than others.

Their eyes are very dark blue, big, round, and have very sharp vision to help them see clearly through the water both in the day and night times. Sharks are born with sharp, pointed, and well-developed teeth that help them grasp, tear, and eat their prey and also for self-defense against other giant marine creatures. They have internal ears that are sensitive and can sense movements and vibrations real quick.

Baby sharks have pointed fins, thick and asymmetrical and reversed arrow-shaped tails, cone-shaped heads, several rows of sharp triangular teeth, and gill slits on the side that are visible if it swims towards you!
