What Do Banana Spiders Eat?

Writer Rachel Davis

Banana spiders, also known as Nephila clavipes, go by a variety of names, including Golden Silk Spiders, Writing Spiders, Calico Spiders, and Golden Orb Weavers, among others. As far as the size of banana spiders is concerned, females are significantly larger than their male counterparts. Females can grow to be 1-3 inches in length, whereas males are normally only.02 inches in length on average. Both are slim, yet their skin tones are different. The female has yellow markings on a pale orange/tan abdomen, whilst the males are dark brown and often go missed totally due to their dark coloration. The legs of the females are decorated with brown and orange bands and two fuzzy tufts on each leg, with the exception of the third, shorter pair.

Banana spiders have been observed feeding on beetles and dragonflies, among other things.
