What Do Cnidarians Eat? - Kylon Powell
Andrew Davis
The majority of cnidarians hunt on species ranging in size from plankton to animals many times their own size, however many rely on dinoflagellates for a significant portion of their nourishment, and a few are parasites on other organisms. The majority of them are preyed on by other animals such as starfish, sea slugs, fish, turtles, and even other species of cnidarians.

Cnidarians capture their food either by using their nematocysts or by filter feeding it to them. Cnidarians digest their food utilizing a rudimentary digestive system that is devoid of organs; instead, they have a mouth (which also acts as the anus) and a gastrovascular chamber in which to swallow their food.
Animals and Insects
Cnidarians eat the remains of other planktonic creatures. Also, Cnidarians will eat free-swimming worms such as the arrowworms (Sagitta) and segmented worms such as the sagitta (Tomopteris spp). Cnidarians also eat comb jellies, which are animals that look similar to jellyfish. Although sea nettles are highly resistant to predation, a variety of creatures, including sea turtles, tuna, sunfish, several kinds of butterflyfish, and the spiny dogfish, feed on them. Cnidarians can also eat meat and food that they can grab in the ocean water.
Plants and Fruits
Cnidarians are carnivores and they don’t eat plant but they can eat animals that eat plants these animals are called (plankton animals).
What they Cnidarians eat?
Cnidarians are all carnivores, which means that the majority of their meal is composed of meat or other animal products. The amount of meat consumed varies depending on the size of the species that consumes it, which can range from microscopic zooplankton (animal larvae) and phytoplankton (plant larvae) to small fish and everything in between.
