Soft and cuddly – ducklings are the favorite pet for most children. Ducklings spend most of their time on land because they aren’t adapted to swim like their adults. While they are fun to adopt, these baby ducks are fussy eaters when it is feeding time. That being said, ducklings also consume diverse food items, but it has to be specialized! Insects, Fish, and Animals

Ducklings grow faster into adult ducks. This is why ducklings eat a lot. Because the more they eat, the fast they grow into healthy ducks.

Most of their diet includes various insects. Hence, ducklings eat bugs, insects, mealworms, worms, flies, mice, frogs, slugs, and snakes.

Being active babies, ducklings eat at night as well. They also enjoy munching on a variety of feeds. Hence, ducklings eat chick starter if you’re planning to get one. Besides, ducklings eat fish and minnows specifically.

Fruit, Vegetables, and Plants

Ducklings can consume fruit, vegetables, and plants including various types of small treats. Their small beaks can munch on the soft and a little hard snacks in the form of vegetables. Hence, ducklings eat veggies, grass, oats, peas, rice, seeds, corn, and hay.

Ducklings can easily digest soft, wet grass and hay from time to time. For their healthy growth, ducklings eat lettuce, bananas, grapes, cabbage, and food.

What ducklings don’t eat?

Although shells are digestible, ducklings don’t eat their eggshells when they are hatched. Plus, there is a variety of fruit that shouldn’t be fed to ducklings. Hence, ducklings don’t eat apples, alfalfa, mint, and pine shavings. Apart from these, ducklings don’t eat ants because they can harm the ducklings with their toxins. However, ants do crawl on ducklings from time to time.
