What Do Dust Mites Eat?

Dust mites are arthropods because they are found with dust in dwellings. Dust mites that are found in homes can cause allergies because they contain tropomyosin and it can cause major allergies such as shellfish allergy, asthma, and many other major allergies. Dust mites are said to be attracted to household items that contain skin cells. They don’t bite or sting, the allergen remains on the skin by their fecal matter.
They have translucent or transparent bodies and they are so small in size that they can’t be seen with the naked eye. Dust mites are found worldwide but they are most commonly found in humid regions. Insects and bugs
Dust mites eat pet dander which fell from pets. Dust mites don’t eat any specific insects or bugs because they mainly live on nonliving things.
Organic and inorganic materials
Dust mites love to eat dust because dust contains skin cells of humans or animals. Dust mites eat dead skin, dandruff from hairs, boogers, hairs, paper, cotton, etc. Dust mites also eat cotton, human hairs, skin, and wool. Also, Dust mites will eat fabric of any type which have a high pore size. Dust mites also eat skin flakes from humans.
What dust mites don’t eat
Dust mites don’t eat water bears because water bears are very dangerous and they can’t be eaten by any insects. Additionally, Dust mites don’t eat bed bugs because bed bugs are larger in size as compared to dust mites. They don’t eat plants and clothes. Dust mites don’t eat wood, cardboard, and carpets which are mostly present in houses. Lastly, Dust mites are not considered parasites, they just only feed on dead skin cells.
