Dwarf hamsters are said to be omnivorous, which means that they can eat meat and fruits, and vegetables for their survival and nutritional requirements. Dwarf hamsters are mostly found in the deserts of central Asia. These are tiny hamsters in other species so when born, they are about 2cm and mainly grow up to 4.5-5 cm in length. They are also found in regions of Europe.
Know that dwarf hamsters eat sunflower seeds, safflower seeds, grains, fruits, berries, and invertebrates, etc. their breeding season is from April to October, and females can have two to five litters. Dwarf hamsters have two incisors in the mouth that continue to grow throughout their life span.
Insects and animals
Dwarf hamsters don’t eat more rather they eat, on average, about one to two tablespoons full of food per 24 hours. Dwarf hamsters can eat meat, mealworms, wax worms, fish, bugs, and dried mealworms. Due to their cannibalistic behavior, they can also eat other dwarf hamsters. It is normal for them to eat their babies even they can eat their own poop for nutritional requirements.
Vegetables and fruits
Vegetables and fruits are considered to be a very nutritional diet for hamsters as they like to eat them fresh. Dwarf hamsters can eat apples, carrots, hay, raspberries, almonds, avocados, asparagus, arugula, bananas, alfalfa hay, strawberries, blackberries, bell pepper, cheese, and cabbage. Additionally, dwarf hamsters will eat blueberries, cherries, cooked chicken, dandelion, leaves, cranberries, grapes, green beans, green peppers, and grass.
Also, dwarf hamsters can eat honey, hazelnuts, hard-boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, honeydew, several human foods, kiwi, kale, and watermelons. On top of that, dwarf hamsters will eat curly kale because of its high nutritional content and vitamins.
Veggies and seeds are very safe for hamsters; however, food that contains a large content of sugar should be given in moderate amounts such as oranges, grapes, mangoes. Green beans are also healthy for them.
Dwarf hamsters eat Rice Krispies, white rice, leaves, lychee, mushrooms, monkey nuts, melons, mangetout, nuts, nectarines, cooked and raw noodles, oats and oatmeals, peanut butter, pumpkin seeds, peaches, quinoa, broccoli, romaine lettuce, green and red peppers, radishes, rose petals, etc. Also, dwarf hamsters will eat yogurt, Weetabix, yellow peppers, zucchini, courgette, tomatoes, and walnuts, which are also healthy for them.
What dwarf hamsters don’t eat
Dwarf hamsters don’t eat frozen peas, iceberg lettuce, ham, flour, dried fruits, guinea pig food, leeks, little gem, nettle, lettuce, longans, lentils, onions, peanuts, or white bread because it’s unhealthy for them to eat.
