Flickers are a type of woodpeckers. The have omnivore diet. There are 14 known species of flickers. They have green and brown back, black barring wings, yellow underside with black spots and colorful marks on their heads. Average weight of a flicker is about 120 g and height is 30-35 cm.
There are several varieties in flickers but Yellow shafted and Red shafted flickers are most common. Average lifespan of yellow shafted flickers is 9 years and 2 months and 6 years and 8 months is the average lifespan of red shafted flickers.
They live in open cities, groves, open forests and make their nests by making holes in dead or diseased trees or large branches.
Interesting fact
They have bulging throat, they swallow whole insects, then bring back and chop them for their young ones to eat.

They are fond of insects mainly they capture and eat from ground. Flickers eat insects like grubs, ants, spiders, ticks, flies, butterflies, moths, beetles such as pine and Japanese beetles, stink bugs and worms like mealworms.
Fruits
Also, Flickers like to eat fruits like grapes, berries and dry fruits such as peanuts.
Birds and other animals
Flickers do not eat any bird or bird eggs, but they’ve seen attacking on birds sometimes. But they definitely eat bird seed. They also feed on snails.

Flickers are fond of eating acorns, sunflower seeds. They also like to forage on fruit seeds. They drill into tree trunks and ground to get food like woodpeckers. They also like to eat suet.
Winter Feed
Flickers mostly eat fruit seeds and insect larvae alive in winters.

Flickers do not eat wasps and bees; they mostly forage on slow moving insects. Flickers do not feed on cicadas and large animals.
