What Do Great White Sharks Eat?
David Wilson
The world’s ferocious marine hunters called great white sharks are found in the oceans. These are the largest sharks, with female sharks measuring 20 feet long. These natural predators swim at great speeds with the help of their tails. Because of their powerful tails, great white sharks get moving and come with their surprise attacks! These are mostly found at the surface level of the oceans.
Hence, surprise attacks on humans are common whenever humans are encountered by these predators! But what do great white sharks eat? Well, they eat a lot because of being generalists and opportunistic feeders. Insects, Animals, and Fish
The large size, speed, and mouth are all designed to capture meat from fish to seals. Their ability to catch and shear the prey once they’ve got hold of it makes them the wild predators.
Seals
Great white sharks eat elephant seals, harp seals, leopard seals, sea lions, and walruses.
Fish
Great white sharks eat basking sharks, bottlenose dolphins, blue whales, Bluefin tuna, and each other. Together with these, great white sharks eat crocodiles, crabs, green sea turtles, grouper, dolphins, and humpback whales. And the list is so extensive that you might want to read on as it’s worth knowing about their all-fish-inclusive diet. Apart from hunting big fish, great white sharks eat eels, moray eels, fish, small fish, pufferfish, jellyfish, starfish, and giant squid.
Other small and big fishes
Great white sharks eat herring, lemon sharks, lobster, moray eels, mackerel, other sharks, their babies, tuna, and tiger sharks. Plus, great white sharks eat turtles, polar bears, and pelicans.
Animals
Great white sharks eat walruses, humans, penguins, plankton, and their prey.
Fruit, Vegetables, and Plants
As you’d know, great white sharks are the predators of large and small fishes including seabirds. Hence, great white sharks don’t eat fruit, vegetation, or plants found in the oceans. Their fierce and voracious dietary habits are strictly related to marine animals, no matter the size. Yes, the orcas are the exceptions.
What great white sharks don’t eat?
Great white sharks are known to consume tons of food in a day swimming at a great speed. Mostly, great white sharks hunt and prey in the nighttime. Great white sharks, however, avoid eating some other foods which aren’t part of their menu.
Hence, great white sharks don’t eat bull sharks, birds, barracudas, baby orcas, clownfish, and cod. Apart from these, great white sharks don’t eat saltwater crocodiles, great white sharks, goliath grouper, hammerhead sharks, and killer whales.
Most of these are just as aggressive as great white sharks. This is because they too are large enough to fight with the great white sharks. Besides, great white sharks don’t eat manatees, mako sharks, orcas, octopus, otters, stingrays, reef sharks, manta rays, sea otters, sperm whales, and triggerfish. And of course, great white sharks don’t eat plants and seaweed.
