What Do Kunekune Pigs Eat?

Writer Sarah Silva

The capacity to digest grass in Kunekune pigs means that fibrous feeds such as pasture and vegetable scraps can make up a bigger portion of their diet – but it is important to supplement these feeds with pig nuts to ensure that they get all of the vitamins and minerals they require to stay healthy. Young kunekunes can benefit from up to 500 grams of pig grower feed per pig per day, such as NRM Little Pig Tucker Pellets, or other feeds that have been specifically formulated for them to aid in their development. Once they reach 4 months of age, pig growth will slow down, allowing them to be transitioned to a maintenance pig nut such as the NRM Big Pig Nuts, where they will be given 1-1.5kg per day while still having access to pasture or other fiber.
