What Do Leopard Frogs Eat?

Leopard frog is the generic name of different species of true frogs. They have an irregular body shape and have dark spots on their back. There are 10-12 teeth on the premaxilla and about 80 teeth on the maxilla. They are not poisonous like poison dart frogs. Leopard frogs are one of the most intelligent creatures. They can stay underwater and hold their breath for about 4-7 hours. They are carnivores. They can fit anything in their mouth like worms, flies, and flies even small birds also. These frogs breed in aquatic habitats. They are mostly found in permanent pools, rivers, streams, and ponds. Leopard frogs can be good pets for inexperienced people. They are easy to take care of. Their length is about 2-4.5 inches and their weight is about 22 grams. The lifespan of leopard frogs is 2-4 years. In winters, leopard frogs will slow down or may stop eating for three months.

Animals

Leopard frogs can eat everything that fits in their mouth. Leopard frogs can eat fishes including minnows, goldfishes, crayfish, and other small fishes. Leopard frogs can also eat their own species when they are hungry. Also, Leopard frogs will eat snakes, turtles, herons, and a variety of mammals.

Insects

Insects are the main food of leopard frogs. Leopard frogs can eat almost all kinds of insects like worms (waxworms, mealworms), snails, caterpillars, moths, beetles, and ants. Ants are a bit spicy for them. Additionally, Leopard frogs will eat all invertebrates like fly larvae, bugs, insect larvae, leeches, slugs, and crickets (3-4 as a daily meal). Leopard frogs may eat flies and mosquitoes also.

Birds

Leopard frogs can eat birds also. Leopard frogs can eat small and baby birds.

What Leopard frogs don’t eat?

Leopard frogs do not eat any kind of plants and algae while some other frogs can eat aquarium plants and can consume algae as their food also.
