Find Out What Lovebirds Eat

Lovebirds are little African parrots called by their loving, strong, monogamous pair bonding with their chosen partner. Lovebirds are mainly herbivorous, which means they eat a broad range of plants. Lovebirds eat seeds, berries, fruits, grains, grasses, leaf buds, and crops such as corn, maize, and figs in the wild. Lovebirds primarily eat seeds that they hunt for on the ground. The nine species’ diets differ slightly regarding what seeds they like and how fussy they are.

Pellets

Pellets are the healthiest and most nutritious diet you can provide your bird. They are superior to seed mixtures because they have a consistent shape and size and are generally flavored to make them more attractive. Pellets are particularly ideal for picky eaters since, unlike grains and seeds, they cannot be picked through.

Fruits and Vegetables

You may feed apples to your lovebirds as long as the harmful seeds are removed. Also, lovebirds can eat fresh bananas, citrus fruits, berries, grapes, guava, strawberries, almonds, grapefruit, mangoes, melons, papayas, peaches, plums, watermelon, pears of any type, and star fruits. Additionally, lovebirds eat sweet potatoes, bajra, broccoli, yams, tomatoes, cucumber, corn, carrots, zucchini, millet, mulberry, cabbage, green lilies, kiwi, lettuce, coconuts, parsnip, lemon and turnips, which are some vegetables that you can feed your lovebirds.

Also, lovebirds will eat oranges, pineapple, pomegranate, plants, parakeet food, pistachio, parrot food, rice, ragi, red rice, raisins, raspberries, raw carrots, raw rice, spinach, sweetcorn, walnuts, and more.

Insects

Lovebirds can eat ants, mealworms, worms, bugs, meat, cuttlefish, wasps, grasshoppers, flies, beetles, bees, and other kinds of insects. Also, lovebirds can eat eggs, eggshells,

Seeds

Lovebirds are big fans of seeds too. Lovebirds eat sesame seeds, flax seeds, hemp seeds, red kidney beans, sunflower seeds, pinto beans, buckwheat, wheat, moong beans, lentils, adzuki beans, and alfalfa beans, which are also high in protein.

What Lovebirds Do Not Eat

Although lovebirds may eat almost everything, there are a few foods that are not good for them. You should never give them fast food, sugary foods, greasy, salty, or fatty foods, and you should also avoid carbonated and caffeinated drinks. They are plant eaters and hence do not consume meat or fish. Certain fruits and vegetables, such as avocado, lime, rhubarb, and navy beans, are also considered unhealthy for your lovebirds since they might harm the liver.
