Mole rats are classified as herbivores because they mainly eat underground parts of many plants. Mole rats are also known as naked mole rats because they have no fur on their body and they generally live underground. If a mole rat bites a human it can cause redness and swelling in that area which can be treated easily.

Mole rats mainly live in underground tunnels and burrows where plenty of grass and plants are present. They live in semi-arid regions.
The average size of a mole rat is 3 inches in length and their average weight is 28 grams to 42 grams. A mole rat can live up to 30 years as they are the longest living rodents.
Plants and vegetables
Mole rats feed on the underground plants. Mole rats prefer to eat the tubers of the plant because it is the main storage part of the plant and contains a lot of nutrients; however, they also eat the roots and stems of plants. Mole rats can eat plants like carrots, potatoes, ginger, turnip and parsnip. Mole rats also eat fruit tubers like oranges, melons, apples, mangoes, peaches and many more. Adult mole rats also eat grasses and herbs.
In captivity, they prefer to eat roots and tubers of plants. A mole rat can live in captivity for 6 years but some can live for up to 30 years. A mole rat gets all the hydration from the plant parts which they eat.
What mole rats don’t eat?
A mole rat doesn’t eat meat. They prefer herbivorous diets and they don’t prey on insects and bugs. Mole rats don’t eat small fishes and small mammals like other mice. Mole rats don’t eat dead plant or animal matter.
