What Rabbit Fleas Look Like
Rabbit fleas are extremely small, wingless insects that can be seen on a fine flea comb used for grooming. The belly area is a fantastic spot for fleas to hide. They appear as dark, oval-shaped insects with hard shells. They have a small head and six legs that dangle beneath their belly. The back legs are longer than the rest of the legs and help propel the rabbit fleas in the air. They are powerful and also allow them to jump considerable distances.
Their bodies of rabbit fleas are covered with hair, which helps anchor them to their host and allows them to move effortlessly under the fur or hair of their host. Rabbit fleas appear reddish and brown flecks that can be mistaken for grains of the earth due to their appearance. They look like a comma-shaped black speck and are nearly equal in the size of pepper grains.
Rabbit Fleas are 2mm in length, and they cannot exceed 1/16 of an inch long on average in the adult stage. Their larvae are similar to the caterpillar stage of butterflies in that they are radically different from the adults in every way.
