Salamanders are strictly carnivores. Due to their carnivorous nature, salamanders will eat meat from animals and insects. Insects

Salamanders will eat ants, aquatic insects, animals, beetles, butterflies, bugs, potato bugs, springtails, and crickets. Salamanders can also eat crickets, centipedes, cockroaches, cicadas, earwigs, flies, grasshoppers, isopods, lizards, and ladybugs. Seeing that they are carnivores, salamanders will definitely feed on just about any insect that they come across. Salamanders are said to be strict carnivores, which means that they love to eat meat. As a result of that, salamanders do eat, mosquitoes, rolly pollies, termites, and termites. Insects are definitely a big part of the diet of salamanders for sure.

Animals

Due to their carnivores natures, salamanders can eat animals, mealworms, nightcrawlers, baby birds, bloodworms, earthworms, geckos, rabbits, dried meal worms, eels, and raccoons. Other animals that salamanders do eat are fish, goldfish,  snakes, worms, and wax worms, minnows, and millipedes.

Salamanders don’t eat fruits, berries, grapes, plants, vegetables, tomatoes, leaves, or seaweed. It’s actually better if you don’t try to feed salamanders any kind of vegetation because meat is what they are supposed to eat. Also, not likely that they would try to eat anything other than meat. A salamander will not eat grass, greens, shrub, or humans.

Rodents

As it pertains to rodents, salamanders are capable of eating mice, rats, squirrels, and other kinds of rodents. Salamanders will try to eat rodents if they get the opportunity to do so.

Larvae

Salamanders can also eat the larvae of other insects. As a matter of fact, salamanders can eat insect larvae, mosquito larvae, beetle larvae, and grubs.

Amphibians

A salamander can be classified as an amphibian. At the same time, salamanders will eat amphibians, such as turtles, tadpoles, other salamanders, toads, turtle food, newt, newt food, frogs, and frog eggs.

Crustacean

Crustaceans are also a part of the diet of salamanders. In fact, salamanders will eat shrimp, brine shrimp, crabs, lobsters, krill, woodlice, and so on.

Arachnids
