Servals are classified as carnivorous animals because they chase and eat small animals for their survival. Servals can eat rats, rabbits, fishes, frogs, and birds, which are in their approach. Servals can eat large insects and birds by leaping in the air. Serval is native to Africa and is known as a wild cat. It is also found in sub-Saharan countries, but they are rare in rainforests regions. The average size of a serval is 54-62 cm and it weighs up to 9-18 kg.

Servals are commonly found in savannas and those areas which have plenty of water. They live in areas where bushes, grass are present. They can be found in high-altitude moorlands.

Serval is a dangerous animal. It attacks fast on animals and eats them, but a serval can’t eat those animals which are larger in size than them. A serval can eat different rodents, reptiles, frogs, and large insects. Servals can eat snakes and shrews. Servals will eat different birds like quelea, quails, flamingoes, and teal. Servals also eat hares and hyraxes. Small rodents make 94% of their diet, and it contains a huge number of proteins. 

A serval cat eats a lot, it can eat 1-3 pounds of meat per day. Servals can eat a lot one day and the next day they eat less, it is normal for them.

What do servals eat in captivity

In captivity servals have a diverse diet, Servals eat birds, crabs, frogs, reptiles, fish, rats, and some large insects. A serval can jump more than 9 feet, so they easily hunt the birds and eat them.

What servals don’t eat

Servals don’t eat animals that are big in size. Servals don’t eat plants and vegetation. Servals don’t eat zebras, raptors such as eagles, hawks, falcons because they fly very high and a serval can’t hunt them. Servals don’t eat kudu and warthogs because they are very large in size. Servals don’t eat humans but they often attack them as serval is an aggressive animal.
