Insects and meat
A major portion of sloth bears diet consists of insects. Sloth bears love to eat termites. Sloth bears also eat ants, caterpillars, bees, etc. Because of their long claws, they can easily dig out ants and termites from their nests. Sloth bears occasionally eat worms such as earthworms and mealworms, and it contains lots of protein for them. Sloth bears eat beetles, grubs and rarely eat fish.
Sloth bears can eat carrion when there is a shortage of food. At night, sloth bears wander in the forest and look for food such as insects and fruits. A sloth bear eats a lot and can eat three times a day. Sloth bears are aggressive and they attack humans and rarely eat humans.
Plants and fruits
Sloth bears besides insects feed on fruits and plants. Normally, fruits are grown on the trees in the monsoon season, and Sloth bears love to eat figs, mangoes, ebony, apples, peaches, and pomegranates. Sloth bears also feed on flowers as they eat fallen petals of different flowers in the season of March and April. Sloth bears also eat grapes, sweet potatoes, lettuce, spinach, and carrots. Sloth bears also eat other plants and honey.
