What Do Tree Frogs Eat?

Writer John Campbell
What Do Tree Frogs Eat

Adult tree frogs are insectivores, which means they eat insects such as flies, ants, crickets, beetles, moths, and other small invertebrates, as well as other small vertebrates. However, when they are tadpoles, the majority of them are herbivores. Carnivorous (insectivorous) means that they eat live food. Among the live protein sources that green tree frogs consume are gut-loaded crickets, earthworms, and wax worms. Because wild collected insects might contain disease and parasites, they should never be fed to pets or livestock.

A separate enclosure, free of bedding and furniture, is preferred by some reptile and amphibian owners because it ensures that their pets eat all of their insects, that prey cannot hide, and that the frog does not pick up any bedding while grabbing prey and mistakenly ingest it along with the food they are feeding. Please keep in mind, however, that green tree frogs are quite sensitive, and their skin can quickly tear. Handling should be done with caution. Silky Terrier Dog Breed Playing Around

Insects and Animals

Additionally, tree fogs can eat monarch, caterpillars, dragonflies, insects, crickets, dubia roaches, darkling beetles, dead crickets, earthworms, earwigs, flies, fruit flies and fireflies. Also, tree frogs will eat slugs, june bugs, japanese beetles, ladybugs, moths, pill bugs, roaches, snails, stink bugs, ticks wasps, and lightning bugs. Adult tree frogs eat mice, small fish, small snakes, salamanders, baby birds, bird eggs, birds, snakes, small fish, and toads.

Fruits and Vegetables

Tree frogs are insectivores and their diet mainly consists of insects and small animals. They will never eat vegetables or fruits.

What do tree frogs don’t eat?

Because tree frogs are purely meat eaters, never feed them fruits or vegetables, commercial pet food made for other species, live prey that is too large (a large bug can bite your frog), or wild-caught insects that may have pesticides or parasites.
