Animals and Insects

White bass larvae mostly eat zooplankton, particularly those belonging to the genus Daphnia. The majority of the food consumed by juveniles is invertebrates. White bass eats chironomid larvae, mayfly larvae, dragonfly larvae, damselfly larvae, bugs, amphipods, and crayfish, among other things. Adults with a body length greater than 350 mm begin to feed primarily fish.

Fathead minnows, johnny darters, gizzard shad, threadfin shad, immature sunfish, yellow perch, saugers, freshwater drum, carp, bullhead species, and others are also common prey for these fish. White bass can have up to four peaks in daily feeding activity, but this might vary throughout the year depending on the time of year.

Primary Diet: carnivore piscivore (carnivore-piscivore).

Animal foods: White bass mainly eat Fish, insects, aquatic crustaceans, and zooplankton

Plants and Fruits

They are carnivores and White bass don’t eat plant-based food. The White Bass’s feeding habits are characterized by a tendency to avoid consuming aquatic plants and instead concentrate on locating other creatures to consume. Zooplankton, small crustaceans, minnows, baitfish, and water fleas are some of the most common prey items for these fish. White bass is found primarily in rivers, creeks, and streams, although they can also be found spawning in medium and large lakes, as well as constructed reservoirs, depending on the location.

What white bass don’t eat?

As uneaten white bass fish food decomposes, it releases poisonous ammonia and nitrite into the environment. Because the nitrifying bacteria that helps to eliminate these poisons hasn’t had the time to fully mature, this is especially problematic in newly installed aquariums. When your white bass fish’s ammonia and/or nitrite levels are elevated, it can stress and possibly kill them.
